My Favorite Quotes | Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. Each week I will make a list of 10 books, authors or other bookish things surrounding a certain topic. Today, we’re talking about our favorite quotes. Let’s get started!

“If you pull it, you accept that billions should live as slaves. Imagine all those unborn. If it is not me, someone else will rise. Ten years from now. Fifty. A thousand. We will break the chains, no matter the cost. You cannot stop us. We are the tide.

~ Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown

I rise into darkness, away from the garden they watered with the blood of my friends.

Morning Star (Red Rising #3) by Pierce Brown

It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size.

Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor #1) by Mark Lawrence

[talking about mental health awareness]
I can say, with some confidence, that it’s gone too far the other way. Because now mental health disorders have gone “mainstream”. And for all the good it’s brought people like me who have been given therapy and stuff, there’s a lot of bad it’s brought too. Because now people use the phrase OCD to describe minor personality quirks. “Oooh, I like my pens in a line, I’m so OCD.”
“Oh my god, I was so nervous about that presentation, I literally had a panic attack.”
“I’m so hormonal today. I  just feel totally bipolar.”

Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne

I should have known better than to call upon the gods.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Had she really thought I would not know him? I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

“It’s not natural for women to fight.”
“It’s not natural for someone to be as stupid as he is tall, and yet there you stand.”

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

He was as much a bully in death as he was in life, a giant who left behind not an empty space so much as a black hole, a huge crushing void that swallowed up all of our comforts, sooner or later.

~ If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

“Mmm….she’s doomed! You’re doomed!! They’re all doomed! Notice I didn’t specify what kind of doom, so no matter what happens, I predicted it. How very WISE of me.”

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

“Someday, Locke Lamora,” he said, “someday, you’re going to fuck up so magnificently, so ambitiously, so overwhelmingly that the sky will light up and the moons will spin and the gods themselves will shit comets with glee. And I just hope I’m still around to see it.”
“Oh please,” said Locke. “It’ll never happen.”

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

  1. You picked such great quotes, Jolien! I may have not liked Locke Lamora’s story, but that quote was so epic that I set it as my Tumblr quote for a long while. Red Sister sounds terrific, even though I remain unsure of its triggering content. Like, I somehow assumed from the title that it would be graphic and vicious, which are things I cannot handle.

Leigh Bardugo created such great tension between Matthias and Nina. I love them so much.

  2. Gods if only I read TSoA in physical copy… my copy would be filled with tabs and highlights! I especially love the “this and this and this” quotes, the “We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”, and “name one hero who was happy”. I swear that book is one of the best I’ve ever read!

  3. I love this quote from Six of Crows:
“Kaz leaned back. “What’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet?”
“Knife to the throat?” asked Inej.
“Gun to the back?” said Jesper.
“Poison in his cup?” suggested Nina.
    “You’re all horrible,” said Matthias.”

And yes, the one you picked from Locke Lamora is also great (this series is so quotable, I love it)
