Announcement: A Mini Hiatus?

It’s been a while since I’ve had to write a post like this. About a year, I think? Maybe a little less. I’m here to announce a (mini) hiatus I’ll be taking for the next couple of weeks.

Why am I taking a hiatus?

I’ve mentioned in my previous wrap ups that I’m moving soon. That soon is coming up fast, and there is just so much to do. Aside from my job, and the move, I’ll also be taking driving classes the next couple of weeks. For now, all of this is just a bit much to juggle. Especially as my weekends are also filled with family get togethers: Easter, birthdays and pretty soon a “lentefeest” celebration (which is basically like the non-religious version of communion?).

When I have that much to do (and so many people to see), my mental health is the first thing to suffer. So I’m actively taking a step away from my blog and channel for a while so I can focus on feeling okay.

Will there be no more posts from me?

I still have a few posts scheduled, so those will obviously be going up. And I might be inspired to write a review, and want to post that one immediately. So you’ll probably still be seeing some posts go up. It just won’t be the usual amount at all. I might be inspired, and write. But I might just also take a break.

When will I be back?

At this point, I can’t give you a precise date. I’m moving in the first few weeks of May, and that’s also when the family get-togethers and the driving lessons (+exam) are. So I might be back in the second half of May. But I might also need some time to recover from that hectic period and only be fully back at the end of May or the beginning of June. I quite honestly don’t know.

Don’t worry though, it won’t be complete silence on here. I will try to update you all once in a while so I don’t feel completely out of touch.

Will I still be active on social media?

Yes. I’m not taking a social media break. At least, not right now. So you’ll still be able to find me on Twitter, Instagram and Goodreads! I will still be reading, so I will posts updates on there. Especially Goodreads. I update my reading religiously there, you know that.

A big hug from me, and I will talk to you next time. Whenever that may be.

EMMA Read-along Announcement & Invitation!

Hi everyone! Today, I have exciting news. You might know that I’ve been planning to give more classics a go, after reading and enjoying Pride and Prejudice last year. I wanted to read more of Jane Austen’s work. And then Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense suggested a buddy read for Emma could be fun. Perfect idea, no?

SO WE ARE HOSTING A READ-ALONG FOR EMMA!

When do we start?

We’ll start reading on March 10th. That way we have three weeks until the end of March to read Emma.

Emma is divided into three volumes, so we are planning on reading 1 volume per week. Which should mean we finish on March 31st.

How do we communicate?

Well. On Twitter, of course!

We’ll be using the hashtag #EmmaRAL (Emma Read-along) for general updates on the reading progress and story, and are planning on creating a group DM for all those interested, to go into more detail when discussing the story.

Can anyone join?

Of course! We’d love it if you could read along with us! The more, the merrier, right? It doesn’t matter whether it’s your first time reading Emma, or whether you just want to re-read the book during the buddy read. All are welcome.

If you’d like to join us, leave a comment or Tweet at @fictionalreader or @booknonsense. You can also leave a comment on Alicia’s announcement post, which will be going up later today. (Them time zones, people. Always so confusing!)

I’m Participating in the Fantasy Favourites Read-a-Thon!

Today is an announcement post! I’ve decided to participate in the Fantasy Favourites Read-a-thon hosted by Inge and Aly @ Of Wonderland, and Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe! I’m going to be answering some questions as an introduction post.

For those of you who wish to join, you can follow the links I mentioned above to sign up! The read-a-thon will happen from July 10th until July 18th.

fantasy favorites

1. Who are you?

If you are a reader of my blog, you might know that my name is Jolien. I’m 21 years old, and summer has just started for me. I’m truly not entirely sure what to say about myself, besides the fact that I love reading -and especially fantasy.

2. Why are you joining the read-a-thon?

Several reasons, actually. First, it’s been such a long time since I’ve participated fully in one. They always are at inconvenient times for me! However, as summer just started for me, I’m actually free for once. Second, fantasy is my absolute favorite genre. Third, Inge is a wonderful friend, and I want to participate in anything she’s hosting when I can. Fourth, it’s been a long time since I’ve re-read Percy Jackson, so I’m excited to do that with Inge!

3. Which books do you intend to read?

I haven’t made a complete TBR yet. I’m definitely re-reading the Percy Jackson series, at least I hope to get that done. I also want to participate in another read-a-thon which overlaps with this one, so I’ll try to make a fantasy filled TBR that fits both.

4. How many pages do you think you’ll manage?

I have absolutely no clue. Percy Jackson’s 5 books are 1708 pages all together, so I guess I’m trying to reach that amount as a minimum?

5. What’s your favorite thing about the fantasy genre?

There are so many things to choose from. I guess the vast amount of imagination. There are just no limits and boundaries to the wonders we can create with our minds. All that imagination offers the perfect escape of dreary everyday-life.

6. Which fantasy books do you always recommend?

I’ll skip the obvious of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I always recommend The Legend of Eli Monpress series by Rachel Aaron -I absolutely love it. And The Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles series by Michael J. Sullivan. Still so underrated. I also love the Girl of Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson. Honestly, I could go on for a while here.

7. Which fantasy books are you dying to read?

First of all, Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan. And Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch -the release date was pushed back twice. And although I totally understand the reasons, I’m still a bit sad because I love the Gentleman Bastard series. I’m not even going to start getting into the wait for Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin. At this point in time, I have just lost all hope of ever reading it.

8. If you could travel to one fantasy world, which would it be?

No doubt about it, Middle Earth. I want to relax in the Shire with the hobbits. I want to walk the path to Rivendell. I want to spend time in the city of Elrond. I want to travel to Lothlorien, and walk beneath its trees. I want to see the White City of Gondor. I want to see everything -aside from Mordor and Shelob’s Lair because I would die from fear.
